La psiconeuroinmunología estudia cómo el cerebro, las hormonas y el sistema inmunológico están profundamente conectados.
Cuando vivimos situaciones de estrés, el cuerpo activa una “alarma interna”:
- El cerebro envía señales que liberan cortisol, útil en pequeñas dosis pero dañino si se mantiene elevado.
- También se liberan adrenalina y noradrenalina, que activan al cuerpo pero provocan inflamación constante si permanecen altas.
- Las citoquinas comunican al cerebro la presencia de inflamación o infección, pero emociones negativas crónicas pueden alterar estas señales y desorganizar la respuesta inmune.
¿Y las emociones?
Estudios muestran que emociones positivas como optimismo, gratitud o paz interior:
- Favorecen la producción de células que combaten virus y tumores.
- Reducen la inflamación.
- Mejoran la coordinación del sistema inmunológico.
Por el contrario, emociones negativas sostenidas como ansiedad, tristeza o ira pueden debilitar las defensas.
Estrategias para cuidar tu sistema inmune
No se trata solo de alimentación y ejercicio: también es clave cuidar tu bienestar emocional.
- Dormir bien.
- Aprender a manejar el estrés.
- Practicar meditación, mindfulness o yoga.
- Rodearse de relaciones saludables.

Tu mente, tus emociones y tu salud física están profundamente conectadas. Cuidar tu bienestar mental no solo mejora cómo te sientes, también fortalece tu capacidad para mantenerte sano frente a infecciones y enfermedades.
